Why can’t it last!?įablehaven: Grip of the Shadow Plague by Brandon Mull continues the stories of Kendra and Seth Sorenson whose grandparents are the caretakers of Fablehaven–a refuge for magical creatures. The theme of light vs darkness is so well done in this novel. It connects so many dots from previous novels and builds this world of fantasy creatures well. I think this is my favorite book so far on this reread.*I use spoilers in this post in order to give my full opinion of the novel. For my previous reviews of this series, see here and here. I’m reading one Fablehaven book each month through May. Every time I reread one of these great books, I can hardly stop myself from continuing through the whole series. Today I’m here with a review of the third book in the Fablehaven series by Brandon Mull. “The Fablehaven series is generating buzz as a contender in the fantasy-adventure genre to replace the Harry Potter franchise.Hi everyone! Can you believe it is the last day of March?! I’m sneaking in one last review this month before we officially hit April. “Mull’s story offers unexpected twists and entertainingly scary creatures.” “Witty repartee between the central characters, as well as the occasional well-done set piece.” “ Fablehaven is a solid piece of work that could stand in the same company as the early Harry Potter books.” “Every bit a ‘page turner’ as the Harry Potter books! This story is so compelling and so well written you’ll find its magic working on you as well, completely taking over your ability to put the book down, even for a moment.”

Fablehaven is a worthy addition to the crowd. “There has been an explosion of children’s fantasy trying to follow in the footsteps of Harry Potter. Orson Scott Card, Author of Enders Game I only wish I could have read it when I was ten or twelve.”

“The Fablehaven series is one of the most enjoyable fantasies I’ve read in the past few years. Obert Skye, Author of Leven Thumps and The Gateway to Foo It is a lucky book that can hold this kind of story.” “Imaginative…Kendra awakens a fairy army in a fierce scene worthy of the Lord of the Rings. “Featuring plenty of heroism and hilarity, Fablehaven: Rise of the Evening Star is rich in creatures, magic-working, and hard-fought battles…”
